Our Lenten Journey Begins

Our Lenten Journey Begins

Our Lenten Journey Begins!

Lent is a time to journey toward a closer relationship with Jesus.  These forty days give us the
chance to pray in a way that fosters that bond between ourselves, Jesus, and our community. We
fast, or go without, as we seek to understand the sacrifice Jesus made for us on the cross. Alms
are given in an effort to share the goodness of the Lord’s many gifts.  This year we are excited to
share with you an opportunity for your child to help feed children here in our own neighborhood
as well as other families in need around the world.
Our Lenten almsgiving will begin in our own community.  Hand 2 Hand is an organization
founded in 2008 in West Michigan that is dedicated to delivering nutritious food to students
over the weekends and on extended school breaks by mobilizing churches, schools, individuals,
and businesses to join together, providing hope and opportunity to thrive.   We will be collecting
the following items for weekend meals for children in West Michigan.

HAND 2 HAND OUTREACH INFORMATION
Beginning the second week of Lent, we will focus on helping our global community.  Students
and families will be asked to gather reading pledges for the Heifer International Read to Feed
Lenten Outreach.  Heifer International is an organization that promotes reading, introduces
students to global issues (hunger and poverty), and helps assist millions of people around the
world to feed their families and reach self-reliance through gifts of livestock and training.
Pledge forms and reading logs will be sent home next week in each child’s Thursday Folder.
